On June 8, 2026, the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) held a consultative meeting at its premises with representatives of Savings and Credit Associations (SCAs), members of the deposit insurance scheme. The meeting was organized as part of the consultation process on the proposed amendments to the draft law “On Deposit Insurance” and related measures aimed at further aligning the legal framework with European Union standards.

During the meeting, representatives of the SCAs were presented with the key proposed amendments to the draft law, which are intended to strengthen depositor protection and enhance the effectiveness of the deposit insurance scheme. The main topics discussed included the increase in the coverage level of insured deposits and the implementation of a risk-based contribution system for the Savings and Credit Associations sector. Both changes are envisaged to enter into force upon Albania’s accession to the European Union, in line with the requirements of the EU acquis.

The meeting was conducted in a cooperative and constructive atmosphere, providing participants with the opportunity to share comments and recommendations on the proposed amendments and their implications for the sector.

In conclusion, ADIA reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Savings and Credit Associations, to support the implementation of reforms that enhance depositor protection and contribute to the stability and credibility of the financial system.
