The Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency signed the contract on 19.09.2024 with Banka Intesa Sanpaolo Albania sh.a, which was selected as an agent bank in the procedure developed for this purpose, based on the regulation “On compensation of insured deposits” , approved by the Governor ’s order no. 3762, on 18.07.2016. Based on this procedure, with the decision of the Governing Council of the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency no.18, dated 30.07.2024, four agent banks have been selected, as follows: Banka Kombëtare Tregtare sh.a, Banka Intesa Sanpaolo Albania sh.a, Banka OTP Albania sh.a and Banka Credins sh.a. which will perform this function throughout the 2024-2026 period.

The agent bank is one of the essential elements for the successful realization of a compensation process, in case a member of the deposit insurance scheme is placed under liquidation by decision of the Bank of Albania. The agent bank guarantees the payment of compensation on behalf of the Deposit Insurance Agency.

The Agent Bank selection process goes through two stages.
The first stage is the evaluation of the member banks of the scheme, according to the general and technical criteria approved in the regulation “On deposits compensation “. This phase was closed with the selection and signing of the contract with the aforementioned four banks. Following the selection in the preliminary list, the agent banks will be part of simulation exercises, as well as special trainings to successfully carry out a payment process for the depositor’s compensation.

On the other hand, the second phase includes the evaluation of economic bids by the selected banks in the preliminary list for carrying out the compensation process, in the case of a member entity being placed under liquidation by the Bank of Albania.
