The Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA), as one of the institutions forming part of the country’s financial safety net, continues to place special emphasis on the financial education of younger generations. Raising students\u2019 awareness of financial stability issues and the functioning of the banking system remains essential for fostering a stronger and more sustainable financial culture. <\/p>\n\n

In this context, on 26 May 2026, an open lecture was held with students of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Development at the European University of Tirana, on the topic:\u201cHow Safe Are Our Savings? The Role and Function of the Deposit Insurance Agency.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The lecture was opened by the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Elona Shehu, who emphasized that increasing young people’s awareness of savings protection and the operation of the deposit insurance scheme is an important step in their professional and civic development. She highlighted that such activities aim to support students\u2019 financial education by providing them with deeper knowledge of the protective mechanisms within the financial system, as well as the role of the institutions that safeguard its stability. <\/p>\n\n

During the lecture, students were introduced to the operation of the deposit insurance scheme in Albania, its benefits and limitations, and the role of the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) as the sole institution responsible for guaranteeing insurable deposits and compensating depositors in the event of the compulsory liquidation of member institutions of the scheme (banks and savings and credit associations).<\/p>\n\n

The students\u2019 interest was evident through their active participation, questions, and discussions throughout the presentation, making the lecture a valuable and interactive educational experience.As part of its ongoing commitment to financial education and increasing public awareness, the DIA will continue to organize similar activities in line with its communication and information strategies, with the objective of reaching a broader audience and strengthening public knowledge about deposit insurance and the importance of financial stability. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
