Deposit Insurance Fund of Macedonia hosted the 4th Regional meeting of Deposit Insurers from countries that geographically belong to Balkan region, members of European Forum of Deposit Insurers, from 22nd to 24th of June, 2016 in Ohrid.
The Deposit Insurers from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, all signatories of the Joint Memorandum of the understanding, convey views on the roles and functions of the Deposit Insurance Funds in boosting financial stability during political and economic crises. The executives and officials that represented the Deposit Insurers from Balkan region reciprocated self-standing and mutual practices taken with other financial institutions aimed to support the financial stability and safeness of deposits in a case of crises given the different DIFs legislative mandates. Moreover, they exchanged visions for strengthening the cross regional cooperation and bilateral assistance routed for support and contribution to the overall financial stability in the region.
These regional meetings have been once again valued by all participants as highly beneficial, especially towards transfer of knowledge for new EU developments in respect to the advancement of the countries’ DIFs and anticipation of the countries’ specific experiences in conveying the domestic legislation to EU requirements. Such cooperation will continue in the future on a regular base, not limited to the regional cooperation but also for representing the joint interests within the European Forum of Deposit Insurers.
