The 5th EFDI Balkan regional meeting, hosted by the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency, took place in Gjirokastër, Albania from 11th to 13th June 2017. This meeting follows upon a well-established tradition according to which deposit insurance authorities of Albania, represented by Mr. Genci Mamani, General Director; Bosnia and Herzegovina, represented by Mr. Josip Nevjestić, General Director; Croatia, represented by Ms. Marija Hrebac, General Director; Macedonia, represented by Mr. Goran Ancheski, General Director; Montenegro, represented by Mr. Predrag Markovic, General Director and Serbia, represented by Mr. Srdjan Mihajlovic and Mr. Vladimir Medan, respectively Chairman and Member of Board of Directors, gather with the aim to discuss and share experiences and knowledge.
The European Forum of Deposit Insurers (EFDI) is a European deposit insurance organization, in which the Agency is a member, that contributes to the stability of financial systems through European and international cooperation in the field of deposit insurance, crisis resolution, exchange of experiences and information etc. EFDI also engages in consultations regarding European regulatory instruments with European Union institutions, in particular the Deposit Guarantee Scheme Directive.
Challenges, prospects, issues of common interest, etc., that executives representing Deposit Insurers institutions pointed out during the meeting included: recent developments in each jurisdiction, presentations on pay-out cases, dialogue on financial stability within their respective safety nets, involvement of deposit insurers in contingency planning, role in the framework of resolution initiatives and relationships with resolution and supervisory authorities.
Upon the invitation of the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency, the meeting was also attended by the EFDI Vice Chairman and esissuise CEO, Mr. Patrick Loeb, who presented to all participants the recent amendments to the EFDI Statutes and changes within the organisational set up of EFDI, as well as future projects which aim at strengthening the organisation and its members deposit guarantee schemes. In addition, the Director General of the Hellenic Deposit and Investment Guarantee Fund (TEKE), Mrs. Georgia Karageorgi, the Managing Director of the Deposit Insurance Fund of Kosovo (DIFK) Mrs. Violeta Arifi Krasniqi and the Bulgarian Deposit Insurance Fund (BDIF) Board Member, Mr. Bisser Manolov, also attended the meeting as guests of the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency.
